Welcome to St. Bernardine’s

On behalf of our parish priest, Church deacon, the parish Pastoral Council and New Parishioners Welcoming Committee, please accept our every good wish and blessing to you from St. Bernardine’s Catholic Church Buckingham.

We pride ourselves on being a very lively, active and outward-looking community with the objective of reaching out to everyone, especially those who wish to be part at whatever level of St Bernardine’s.

I hope you, too, will soon feel very much part of us and what we represent as a dynamic community. As a Newcomer you are invited to sign the “Newcomers Book” to be found in the Church entrance. This will allow you to be identified and provided with a “Newcomers Welcome Pack”.

Local Facilities

We hope you will find happiness in Buckingham. If you wish to to find out more about the facilities in and around Buckingham (such as State Schools, Leisure Facilities, Health Services, Banks, Estate Agents etc.) then a useful start is the Aylesbury Vale County Council web site for the Buckingham area.

Catholic Schooling

Neither Buckingham nor Brackley has a Catholic school, but there are Catholic primary schools in Milton Keynes, Bletchley and Bicester, and comprehensive schools in Milton Keynes and Banbury. A few miles from Buckingham, at Thornton, there is “Thornton College, Convent of Jesus and Mary”, a private school run by the Sisters of Jesus and Mary, which caters for girls from four to sixteen years of age, and they also have a mixed nursery. Please note that in Buckinghamshire the age of transfer to Secondary school is 12 years, while in Oxfordshire and Northants the pupils transfer at age 11 years.
